Spotlight on Mental Health Needs of Housing Executive Tenants

Tenancy breakdown between the Housing Executive (NIHE) and their tenants is difficult at any time but particularly during the current cost of living crisis. This situation can occur at any stage of the contract and can be triggered by circumstances such as anxiety, stress, or depression.

Did you know that Vineyard Compassion has launched a funded programme to meet the mental health needs of NIHE tenants with the aim of avoiding stressful tenancy breakdowns? Through the Tenancy Sustainment Programme delivered in conjunction with NIHE, we aim to support tenants with their mental health, tackle isolation, improve the skills and tools they have to manage their daily lives.

Tenants can ‘self-refer’ or be referred to any one of our services including donation based counselling or talking therapy and mental health support (in person/video/phone). Counselling helps build resilience, develop new ways of coping with difficult emotions and situations. Based on suggested donations ranging from £3 to £40 a session depending on the persons income/circumstances and is entirely voluntary.

Through this support programme, we aim to enable tenants to maintain sustained, successful tenancies which are essential ingredients for personal stability and wellbeing.
