7 Years of the Hope Centre: Celebrating Vineyard Compassion’s Incredible Volunteers
This month, we’re celebrating seven incredible years of the Hope Centre, a milestone that marks not only the growth of our services but the remarkable impact our volunteers have made in our community.
Since we first opened our doors, our purpose-built facility has been a place of care, support, and compassion for those in need. But the truth is, none of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers, past and present, who bring the heart of our mission to life every single day.
“You don’t need special skills, just a heart to help.”
At Vineyard Compassion, we believe that volunteering isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about showing up with an open heart and a willingness to serve. Melanie, our Provisions Co-ordinator, reflects on the difference a few hours of your time can make:
"Sorting clothes might not sound life-changing, but when someone walks in needing a warm coat or fresh clothes after a crisis, you realise just how important it is. It’s such a simple way to make a huge difference. Every piece of clothing we sort can bring someone hope in their moment of need."
If you can spare a few hours on a Thursday night, you can help sort and distribute emergency clothing to families and individuals who are facing difficult circumstances. Your time can make a world of difference when someone is in need.
“It’s about making people feel seen.”
At our Open Door Drop-in sessions, every person who walks through the door is met with a warm welcome. Ashley, our Compassion Support Manager, explains the profound impact of simple acts of kindness:
"Some people come in feeling lost or alone, but a cup of tea and a chat can be the start of real change. Our Befrienders get to listen, offer kindness, and help connect people to the support they need to move forward in their lives. It’s about making them feel seen and valued."
These Are Just Some of the Ways You Can Bring Hope to Your Community
These volunteer roles are just a few of the many ways you can make a difference at the Hope Centre. Whether you can spare a couple of hours a month or a few hours each week, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. From offering practical support like sorting donations to being the friendly face that greets someone in need, every role matters.
And it’s not just about the work, it’s about the relationships you build. Volunteering with us gives you the chance to connect with our community, hear people’s stories, and make a lasting impact on someone’s life.
A Message from Our CEO, Ricky Wright
"Seven years on, the Hope Centre remains a place where people can find hope when they need it the most. None of this would be possible without our volunteers, who give up their time to serve others. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the perfect time to get involved.”
