What is a Social Supermarket? It’s an opportunity to RESET!

RESET social supermarket is a membership programme which can transform lives! But how does it work? It’s simple really! Members pay a weekly subscription to shop online for a variety of fresh, frozen & store cupboard food products at a reduced cost.

We have witnessed first-hand the difference membership of RESET can have on the people who come through our doors. Recently, we helped a lady who had become socially isolated and lacked the self-confidence to make any change. Through the one-to-one support she received from our team, her confidence grew, and she was encouraged and supported to get a part time job at a local café. From these small steps, in a matter of months, she has flourished and has now started a full-time job as manager of a large supermarket café! She couldn’t wait to tell the team of the change in her circumstances and the impact their support had on her.

We work to support a broad range of people who have recognised that they may need a bit of extra help. For example, we recently helped a single mum who works with one of our partner agencies and refers her clients to RESET. At one point she realised that the programme wasn’t just for the clients she was referring but could be for her too. She joined up herself and as she came to the end of the programme she shared her experience with us:

“I have enjoyed getting to know the staff much better over the past few months. The support has helped me in my personal life and in work situations. A massive thank you for everything you have done for me. I have been able to pay off my debts and the wraparound support has given me confidence in parenting and in work life.”

Another client captured the spirit of RESET and how the programme is designed to enable participants to start afresh even in thinking about a healthier lifestyle:

“Reset has allowed me to prioritise finances for other essentials and towards being in a better position to paying my debts off. Providing opportunity for connection each week. It also helped me reset my thinking about the different groups of food and plan how to incorporate these into a healthy diet.”

One of the most important ways that RESET makes a difference in local lives is through the wraparound services that run alongside the programme. These range from referral to a dedicated support worker from our team, access to professional counselling or personalised debt advice from a debt counsellor. All these services work together to reduce the stress that people feel when facing tough times.

“I have to say the support was amazing and going down to vineyard each week having a chat and coffee was so nice and lifted my spirits in so many ways.  The support and advice were brilliant, and I couldn’t thank everyone enough for everything.  Just knowing I had that support there and getting the food each week took so much stress away from myself and I had a happy son, because I had food in the cupboards.”
